Ruskin Chamber of Commerce Honorary Mayor Fundraiser
for Fred Jacobsen to benefit Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center
There will be a fundraiser on Saturday, December 1 2007, from 9am-2pm, at Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center in Ruskin Florida.
Mark and Carol Dunn, two teachers at Cypress Creek Elementary School are setting up a simulated archaeology dig for children at Camp Bayou. Children will be able to uncover "artifacts" and put them back together again, document what they found and take them home as souvenirs of the day. Suggested donations are $5 per child. There is a short YouTube video showing the Children's Archeology Dig at this year's Ruskin Seafood Festival:
Donations will be applied toward Fred Jacobsen's 2008 Honorary Mayor campaign through the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce. The fundraiser is to support educational programs at Camp Bayou for children that would not otherwise be able to participate. Classes offered at Camp Bayou include studies of Florida native plants animals and learning about the culture of pre-Columbian Indians who lived here.
This fundraiser is being held in conjunction with Camp Bayou's semi-annual Open House. Along with the Children's Archeology Dig there will be many activities, including a mid-day BBQ, another fundraiser for Camp Bayou. Most activities are free so come out and enjoy a great day!
Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center is located at the south end of 24th St SE in Ruskin, FL 33570. For directions and general information, visit www.campbayou.org. Camp Bayou is a partnership between the Ruskin Community Development Foundation and Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation.
