SouthShore Arts Council Public Meeting

The SouthShore Arts Council is having its next public meeting September 23, 2008 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the new HCC SouthShore Campus located at 551 24th Street Northeast , Ruskin , Florida 33570 . The speaker will be Michael Parker a mural artist who will share the progress being made on the Clark 's Furniture mural project. The 100 X 20 foot mural is being funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center and is part of Ruskin's month-long Big Draw celebration. Sixty public drawing events are scheduled between Sept 15 and Oct 11.

 

Michael Parker has a BFA from the University of Massachusetts , Dartmouth , and a MFA in Art from USF, Tampa . He has produced and/or directed large public mural projects over the past few years, and is Co-Director of the Community art Program, Community Stepping Stones; a non-profit organization dedicated to community enhancement through art education and community collaboration. .  He is a 2008 Ucross Foundation resident fellow and his paintings, exhibited throughout the region, are represented by the Paula Ysom Group.

The SouthShore Arts Council is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation and was formed to promote and nurture the practice of the arts in southern Hillsborough County . The council will support and encourage and promote, to the greatest degree possible, activities in the visual arts, music, theater, dance and literature in this region. Educational activities in the arts will be supported and encouraged, and the council will strive to expand learning opportunities in the arts for people of all ages.
