I'm an Ambassador Girl Scout in West Central Florida Council and working on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project.  The project is to promote Florida Eco-Friendly Landscaping techniques with an emphasis on water conservation and the use of Florida native plants.   As part of my project I'm organizing an event, "Linking to the Land ... Going for the Gold" at Camp Bayou, in Ruskin, in conjunction with National Public Lands Day.   The FREE event will be held Saturday, 9/27/08 from 9am - noon and everyone is welcomed. "Goodie-Bags" of eco-related items for all participants.

This worthwhile event will feature a variety of family-oriented and youth activities focused on water conservation and Florida eco-friendly landscaping. Adult-oriented clinics will be held on eco-friendly landscaping with an emphasis on water conservation through the use of native plants.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in beautification efforts at Camp Bayou as well.  Activities inluding trail maintenanc, gardening, removal of invasive plants and trash pickup.

National Public Lands Day is the Nation's largest volunteer event held annually across the country that benefits America 's public lands.

Note from Dolly: Camp Bayou is one of the activity sites for Ruskin's Big Draw with a family activity (drawing a wildlife 'habitat' on a suburban 'lot' along one of several 'streets') in the morning then a nature journaling activity in the afternoon on Sept 27(http://www.southshoreartscouncil.org/schedule.html#naturalist).
