NEWSFLASH: House Floor Vote Likely in July
We Need Your Immediate Help to Expand the Coalition
To Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center:
We just received word that the No Child Left Inside Act is likely to come to a vote on the House floor in July. We do not have confirmation, but when we do, please expect an Action Alert from the coalition, asking you to activate everyone in your organization to contact their house member in support of this act. We hope to have a final word on the schedule in the next several days!
In preparation for this vote, we are quickly trying to add new organizations to the No Child Left Inside Coalition – in key states. Florida is one our priority states for adding new coalition members. Can you help us by contacting organizations within Florida that you believe may be interested in joining the coalition?
Included below is a formal invitation that you can forward with a note to candidate organizations.
Good luck. We are honored to have Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center as a member of the coalition, and thank you for your support, particularly now in this critical time.

Acting Grassroots Coordinator
No Child Left Inside Coalition
INVITATION TO JOIN THE NCLI COALITION
We would like to invite your organization to become a member of the No Child Left Inside Coalition (www.NCLICoalition.org). The rapidly growing Coalition is made up of more than 440 educational, environmental, health, and business organizations across the country representing more than 20 million people (see list below). We are strongly committed to securing new support for environmental education and creating new opportunities for young people to get outside to learn and explore. We are deeply concerned about the elimination or scaling-back of environmental education and field investigations in our schools.
Environmental education provides critical benefits:
- It has a positive impact on student achievement in core subjects: When integrated into the core curricula or used as an integrating theme across the curriculum, environmental education has a measurably positive impact not only on student achievement in science but also in reading, math and social studies.
- It helps improves the health of our children: Field experiences and related programs as part of the regular school curriculum contribute to healthy lifestyles through outdoor recreation and sound nutrition. Getting kid's outdoors to exercise play and experience their natural world helps in preventing obesity, alleviating attention deficit disorder and addressing other health problems.
- It provides important tools for a 21st Century workforce. We'll be passing on complicated environmental problems to future generations. We must give the next generation a solid understanding of these problems and the basic tools to overcome them and make informed choices in their own lives. Business leaders also increasingly believe that an environmentally literate workforce is critical to their long term success.
The Coalition is working to pass the No Child Left Inside Act, which would:
§ Provide federal funding to states to train teachers in environmental education and to operate model environmental education programs, which include outdoor learning.
§ Provide funding to states that create environmental literacy plans to ensure that high school graduates are environmentally literate.
§ Provide funding through an environmental education grant program to build state and national capacity.
To be a member of the Coalition:
§ Please fill out the online form which will only take a few minutes to complete.
Here is the form link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=jRAyPWHwIlPEBTn_2f_2bnZlbw_3d_3d
The survey asks for:
Your organization's contact information, signatory information, number of individuals represented, and a member category.
We hope you will join the Coalition and actively encourage Congress to include environmental education in NCLB.
Thank you.
